LA RATA Red Wine, Walla Walla Valley 2013

This absolutely incredible wine is made by Elizabeth Bourcier, Cayuse’s assistant vigneronne, who was first inspired by Clos Erasmus, and wanted to combine Armada Vineyard Grenache with En Cerise Vineyard Cabernet. The resultant 60% Grenache and 40% Cabernet red blend is completely stunning. As the wine slowly develops in the glass, it begins to release intense aromatics of red cherries and red raspberries woven together with smoke, wet stone and rose petal accents. There are exotic flavors of ripe raspberries, cherry cola and wet stones with undertones of orange rind and lavender. This multidimensional wine possesses a round, voluptuous texture which is impossible to resist. It continues to impress with gorgeous underlying minerality and remarkable balance as it heads into the long, persistent finish. The novelty of this wine is apparent as there is really nothing else like it in Washington. (Best 2016-2028) - August, 2016 (OB)
