The 2013 Horsepower 'Sur Echalas Vineyard' Grenache is an simply stunning effort from Vigneron Christophe Baron. This is slow to open and needs extended air contact to begin to fully release its gorgeous aromatic profile of cranberry, orange rind, seaweed, black truffle, French vanilla, forest floor and wet gravel. These intoxicating range of aromatics lead you into the palate where it displays complex flavors reminiscent of rose water, blood orange, lemon zest, and white truffle, which bring on a lovely interplay with the beautiful red fruits. The Sur Echelas Vineyard Grenache is one of the finest examples of the varietal that I have tasted in the past year. While this is just about impossible to resist right now, this scintillating wine will surely drink beautifully into the next decade and beyond. (Best 2016-2030) - December, 2016 (OB)
