HORSEPOWER VINEYARDS Syrah, Sur Echalas Vineyard 2013

The 2013 Horsepower 'Sur Echalas Vineyard' Syrah is every bit as deep, stony and downright delicious as the 2012 edition. Similar to the other Horsepower bottlings, this wine needs more than a one hour decant to fully begin to express its incredible range of aromas and flavors. As it begins to open it releases a complex aromatic profile of orange blossom, black truffle, damp earth, seaweed, Umami, black cherry cola, wild blackberry preserves and suggestions of baking spices. These aromatics are so invigorating and hedonistic that you are continually brought back to the glass to take it all in. On the palate this possesses deep, concentrated flavors of black cherries, black raspberry, wet stones, black truffle, orange peel and pomegranate. Possessing gorgeous minerality and a velvety texture, this wine glides effortlessly along the mid-palate into the exceedingly long finish. This is an extremely compelling wine, which also has a long, promising future ahead. (Best 2016-2030) - December, 2016 (OB)
