LEONETTI CELLAR Merlot, Walla Walla Valley 2009

The 2009 Leonetti Cellar Merlot is showing remarkably well at this juncture. Renowned winemaker Chris Figgins has blended in a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Cabernet Franc, which adds to the structure and depth. As this slowly unwinds, the wine yields decadent aromatics of black tea, Asian spices, black cherry syrup and blackberry pie. Lithe, dense and having a plush mouthfeel, it continues to delvier gorgeous flavors of black cherry, roasted figs, dark chocolate shavings and suggestions of black tea. This wine glides through the mid-palate and has a structure that makes suggests it still has a long life ahead of it. Overall, this is an utterly compelling wine from Chris Figgins.
