The 2014 'Bionic Frog' Syrah is an absolutely awe-inspiring wine from the talented winemaking team of Christophe Baron and Elizabeth Bourcier. Sourced from the four-acre Cocinelle Vineyard, this inky colored wine is downright intoxicating. Aged in 15% new oak puncheons for 8 months prior to bottling, the wine begins with aromatics reminiscent of tarragon, blackberry cobbler, umami, smoked pork shoulder and black truffle oil which are impossible to resist. The palate is literally mouth watering, as the acidity and saline streak is utterly compelling. Balanced and beautifully textured, the ripe flavors of blackberry cobbler are laced with umami, crushed mint, smoked meats and green olive, which continue to impress as they add wonderful complexity and range. Overall, a simply remarkable job from the team at Cayuse that should not be missed. Only 115 cases made. (Best 2017-2028) - August, 2017 (OB)
