KEN WRIGHT Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley ‘Freedom Hill Vineyard’ 2019

The Freedom Hill Vineyard in the Willamette Valley is becoming one of my favorite vineyards in the area. Deep ruby-purple in the glass with a ruby rim; it’s dark and brooding in the glass. Notes of smokey grilled black plum, spiced blueberry, fresh tar, vanilla bean, and wet tilled earth present nicely on the nose and on the palate. The palate is more blue-fruit driven and not as earthy and spicy as the nose. Bountiful acidity, medium silky tannins, and a long fruity finish complete the wine. I tasted this over 24 hours, and it definitely needs a good long decant before enjoying it now, or wait for 2-3 years to crack the bottle open. My favorite from Ken Wright in 2019. Editor’s Choice.
