ANTICA TERRA Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley ‘Antikythera’ 2019

The 2019 Antikythera from Antica Terra rests for 19 months in about 55% new French oak barrels. The fruit comes from miniature vines that have been in the ground since 1989 because the vineyard is set directly on old marine fossilized rock. Looking at the wine in the glass, you see what is to come - a glistening medium purple-ruby core, a brickish rim, and specs of neon pink catch the eye. Incredibly expressive notes of marionberry, black cherry, dried cedary herbs, milk chocolate, and hoisin sauce are all present and wonderfully balanced. Tannins are silky smooth but present, and the racy acidity benefits the blue-fruit finish to go on for minutes. Just 561 cases made. Highly recommended.
