MONTALBERA
Location: Italy, Piedmont sa

The Montalbera Winery was founded at the beginning of the 20th century in an area located in the townships of Grana, Castagnole Monferrato, and Montemagno. The property extends over 175 hectares cultivated with vineyards in the Monferrato and Langhe.

The vineyards cover six entire hills, with vines that vary in age from 7 to 30 years, and are trained in low Guyot trellises. All agricultural work is done by hand and about 82 hectares are planted with Ruchè, which comprises 60% of the entire production of this appellation. Other planted varieties are Barbera d’Asti, Grignolino, and Viognier.

Ruchè was on the brink of extinction until the 1970’s, until parish priest, Don Giacomo Cauda had rediscovered this varietal as he received 10 rows of vines as a "parish benefit"…and thus the story began.

These wines are extremely unique to any other wines from the region, as they combine style and substance, which allows them to stand out on their own. The unmistakable flavor profile is something that needs to be tasted, as it cannot be compared to anything else.
