The 2016 Château Valandraud is composed of 90% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 3% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged in 100% new oak. A modern style Saint-Émilion, this begins with expressive aromatics of ripe black fruits and blueberries which are joined by vanilla, violets and sweet spices rounding out the nose. On the palate this is full-bodied with big polished tannins and a remarkably plush, inviting mouthfeel. Displaying outstanding overall depth and concentration this continues to impress as it remains well balanced and nicely structured through the long supple finish. This is a forward and seductive wine from Jean-Luc Thunevin, which will be accessible early on and should continue to provide many years of drinking pleasure ahead.
