The 2015 Otin Maté Barbera d'Alba Superiore is an absolutely brilliant wine from Cascina Bruni. which comes from a section of Otin Maté where the vines were planted in 1944. The Barbera spends 18 months in French wooden barriques with an additional 18 months in bottle before release. As for the wine itself, it instantly begins to impress with wonderful aromatics of crushed red cherries and wild berries, which come together beautifully with flowers, smoke, sandalwood and exotic spices all taking shape. On the palate this posesses a gorgeous medium-body with velvety tannins and incredibale overall balance, ending with a beautiful finish which is framed by dark cherries and mineral nuances. This is a sensational Barbera that is drinking remarkably well now, however it should also evolve nicely with some short-term cellaring.
