A marvelous effort, the 2016 Stark-Conde ‘Oude Nektar’ Red wine is a fantastic blend of mainly Cabernet Sauvignon (89%) with smaller portions Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec. Aged foe twenty months in French oak before bottling, the ‘Oude Nektar’ shows a massive core of dark fruits with mocha, tar and anise tones that all take shape in the glass. The palate has incredible poise and balance, with outstanding viscosity. Light herbal undertones line the blackberry compote, mocha, anise and creme de cassis with smoky undertones on the palate. Seriously good in its youth, be sure to give this a one to two hour decant if enjoying over the next year or so.
