The 2017 Catena 'White Stones' Chardonnay is absolutely riveting. This Chardonnay comes from a select 27 rows within Block 1 of the Adrianna Vineyard, which is situated at an elevation of 5,000 feet planted to alluvial soils, covered with gravel and white oval stones, hence its name. As far as the wine itself it is simply striking, as it immediately impresses with its stunning aromas of sliced pear, salted hazelnut, crushed oyster shells and a dusting of vanilla blossoms that all take shape. On the palate this is utterly flawless, as it displays a beautiful texture, with the perfect balance of fruit, acidity and minerality. It remains in perfect harmony, as it continues through the gorgeous finish which is framed by a wonderful saline character. This is without question one of the finest, if not the finest examples of Chardonnay I have ever seen from Argentina, it has a remarkable Burgundian character, and will rival the best bottles of Chardonnay from anywhere in the world.
