The 2016 'Aquilon' is an absolutely majestic, towering wine that begins with a menacing dark inky color followed by deep, layered aromas of black cherries, blueberries and boysenberries, which are accented by spices, toasted oak, dark chocolate, violets all take shape in the glass. On the palate this is full-bodied with a rich, textured mouthfeel that is ripe with plenty of power. This doesn't hold back anything, as it continues to deliver layer upon layer of ripe, unctuous fruit that goes on to envelop the finish. This full-throttle Garnacha is quite impressive today, however it should also develop nicely as it settles down over the next few years.
