Year after year the 'Nicolás Catena Zapata' is one of most imprsssive wines from all of Argentenia and there is certinaly no exception in 2016, as it looks to be one of the most impressive releases to date from Catena. The final blend is composed of 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Malbec, and 8% Cabernet Franc that was sourced from the La Piramide, Domingo, Adrianna and Nicasia Vineyards. As this slowly unwinds in the glass it releases gorgeous aromas of blackberries, dark plums and dark cherries that are woven together with pipe tobacco, violets, herbs and hints of chocolate that all emerge from the glass. On the palate this is full-bodied and impecabally structured with firm, yet beautifully polished tannins that provide excellent support. It goes on to display outstanding overall balance and wonderful definition through the long finish. This is an impecablly made wine from Alejandro Vigil, but it will need some cellaring before it hits its stride, nonetheless this should go on to have a sensational future ahead.
