The 2017 Chappellet Pritchard Hill Cabernet Sauvignon is a fantastic showing in this vintage from this legendary Estate. This Cabernet spent 22 months in new French oak. It immediately begins to impress as it bursts open with seductive aromatics of blackberries, blackcurrants and creme de cassis, which are woven together with tobacco, dark chocolate, sage, spices and dark roasted coffee beans. On the palate this is medium-plus to full-bodied and richly textured, with a ripe core of delicious dark fruits that are accented by lovey spice nuances. It goes on to display fantastic overall balance, with beautifully polished tannins that provide excellent structure through the long supple finish. Overall, this is a complete success from Chappellet in this challenging vintage, and it should go on to offer a drinking window that spans two decades.
