The Hill Block Chardonnay comes from a vineyard planted atop a steep, west facing knoll overlooking the winery. The heritage Wente Clone Chardonnay is planted to the chalky white volcanic ash soils, which result in the growth of smaller vines and lower yields. As far as the wine itself it is simply stunning as it offers up an intoxicating bouquet of orchard fruit, white peaches and hints of tropical notes come together with ripe lemon, wet stones and white flowers which all combine brilliantly in the glass. The palate is focused and vibrant as it displays wonderful balance, with bright acidity and a gorgeous texture that shows incredible depth. This continues to impress as the delicious flavors of lemon oil, ripe peaches and minerals all combine beautifully and leave a lasting impression. While this is nothing short of fantastic at this early stage, it should also go on to evolve gracefully over the course of the next decade.
