The 'Calixtro' is once again a tour de force from Russell Bevan and looks to stand out as the most impressive of the three wines from Tench. The Cabernet Sauvignon comes from a small parcel, 1B South, that is a little over an acre and contains some of the reddest dirt on the property. The result is a wine that is extreamly pure and expressive, offering gorgeous nuances of ripe dark currants, dark cherries and cassis, which are followed by exotic spices, dark florals, fresh sage and underlying hints of iron that all explode from the glass. On the palate this is just as impressive, with its gorgeous full body that displays remarkable concentration and depth. Its beautifully structured, showing a wonderful deep, voluptuous mouthfeel, yet shows notable verve with a seamless quality that makes it nearly impossible to resist. It continues to impress as it delivers loads of ripe dark fruits that are framed by mocha and spice flavors which resonate through the long multi-layered finish. This is nothing short of simply delicious now and should continue to age beautifully and thrive in the cellar for years to come.
