An absolutely magnificent Pinot Noir from Paul Lato, sourced from the Hyde Vineyard in Carneros that was planted in 1979 and is producing incredible fruit. A Pinot Noir that is fermented in stainless steel without stems and aged in 50% new French oak barrels, I’m in love with the nose of this wine. Delicate aromas of wild raspberry, red currant, tangerine peel, olive oil and geranium explode from the glass and creates a sensory experience that grabs you and doesn’t let up. The palate is silky smooth and has a perfect balance of fruit, acidity and tannins - it’s red-fruit driven but has outstanding secondary characteristics of forest floor, Earl Gray tea, wild sage and a touch of sweet oak spices. A magnificent wine that will age for a decade or more. One of the best Pinot Noirs from the 2019 vintage I have tasted and should cellar well for a decade or more. Only 8 barrels produced. Highly recommended.
