The 2018 Encosta Chardonnay from Gandona is a knockout. The fruit comes from the Rodgers Creek and Ritchie Vineyards in Sonoma. It offers up exotic notes of ripe pear, Meyer Lemon curd, nectarines, crushed citrus, toasted almond, and a liquid rock-like character emerge from the glass. There is a lovely medium to full-bodied richness, fresh minerality, plenty of toasty oak, great acidity, and flawless balance. This is a beautifully complex, nuanced, and seamless Chardonnay that is delicious today and will be fantastic over the next decade or more.
