This phenomenal Chardonnay from Paul Lato could be my favorite California Chardonnay I have tasted this year. Coming from the Pisoni vineyard and aged sur lie for 16 months in 50% new French oak, this wine delivers notes of lemon zest, green apple, white wild flowers, crushed wet stone, dried herbs and a hint of vanilla. It’s incredibly fragrant and absolutely scintillating on the nose. The palate is even better with flavors of under-ripe white peach, yellow apple, honeysuckle and a touch of baking spice. The acidity, balance, structure and length of this wine is just about perfect. Wait another year or two to enjoy and this wine may be a perfect example of a California cool-climate Chardonnay. Only six barrels produced. Highly recommended.
