The 2021 ‘Il Don’ is an utterly captivating wine made from 100% Cabernet Franc. It begins with striking aromatics of fresh blackberries, blueberries, dark cherries and black raspberries, which are woven together with florals, graphite, herbs, tobacco and gravel nuances. On the palate, this is full-bodied, and incredibly concentrated with remarkable depth and structure in combination with wonderful purity of fruit. The tannins are big, supple and gorgeous, as they grip hold on the long, polished finish. This is a completely fascinating wine and one of the most impressive examples Cabernet Franc I have ever tasted. When it comes to Napa Valley Cabernet Franc, the ‘Il Don’ is the new boss in town.
