The 2021 'Los Compadres' is yet another utterly stunning wine from Carter Cellars. Sourced from the top of Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard, this is a selection of Clone 4 and Clone 337 planted all on Rootstock 110R. This Cabernet offers incredibly perfumed aromatics of ripe dark currants, black cherries are woven together with violets, graphite, exotic spices and crushed gravel that all take shape as this unwinds in the glass. On the palate this stunning wine is full-bodied, dense and contracted, yet displays remarkable balance and purity. It goes on to impress with its dense layered core which is beautifully laced with ripe dark fruits that expand seamlessly through the long finish. While this is certainly impressive today, it should also have an absolutely brilliant future ahead as it has the potential to evolve for decades.
