The 2022 Estate Syrah from Melville was aged for 18 months in all neutral oak barrels. Fermented with 65% whole-cluster, you really get those added peppery spices in the wine on the nose and on the palate. Sporting a gorgeous dark ruby-blue core with a neon purple rim, it’s a big gamey and peppery to start and in a blind you could call it a great-quality Northern Rhone. Moving to the palate, you are greeted with flavors of crushed black olives, smokey beef ribs, and dried violet and lilac petals. Enjoy this lovely bottle of Syrah over the next decade or more.
