This absolutely brilliant Cabernet Sauvignon from Ashes and Diamonds is sourced from the Rancho Pequeño Vineyard, Bart and Daphne Araujo’s Oakville property on the east side of the valley floor. The biodynamically farmed vineyard is consists of deep soils, composed of alluvial loam washed down from the eastern Vaca Mountains, and maintains a high water table resulting in little to no need for irrigation. The vines benefit from the afternoon sunshine, and are relieved by the cool marine influence at dusk and dawn. This all results in a beautiful, classic expression of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon which is all about purity and sheer class. It begins with striking aromatics of cherries and blackberries woven together with graphite, fresh spring florals, crushed stones and traces of dried herbs all taking shape. On the palate this is flat-out gorgeous, possessing a medium-bodied, silky and refined texture with a remarkably elegant structure. It thoroughly impresses as it effortlessly glides across the palate with incredible balance and finesse leading up to the graceful finish. Winemaker Dan Petroski has crafted a simply sensational Cabernet Sauvignon, made in a ultra-traditional style, which is already drinking beautifully, yet has all the signs for a wonderful evolution ahead.
