The 2017 Château Smith Haut Lafitte is another sensational showing. Composed of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot this begins with striking aromatics of ripe blackberries and cassis which are followed by nuances of graphite, tobacco, espresso and scorched nuances that all take shape. On the palate this is medium-plus to full, with notable concentration and balance. It goes on to impress as it remains focused with wonderful poise through the finish. This is a monumental wine from Smith Haut Lafitte in this vintage and while it is already extremely impressive it should also have a remarkable future ahead.
