CHÂTEAU MOUTON ROTHSCHILD Pauillac 2003

The 2003 Château Mouton Rothschild is an exceptional showing considering the difficult conditions of historically high temperatures and little rain fall the vintage offered. That said, the ’03 has turned out to be quite a success, and is showing remarkably well at this stage. Composed of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot this instantly bursts open to inviting aromas black currants, cherries, savory herbs, tobacco, dried spices and roasted coffee. This further impresses on the palate, at is displays a gorgeous medium-plus body, with a wonderful velvety texture and beautifully integrated tannins that result in a seamless transition into the harmonious finish. While the 2003 seems to be hitting its stride, there is no reason to believe it won’t live on to surpass a quarter century.
