The 1982 Mouton Rothschild is absolutely stunning. This is refined, classy, and still very much alive. It's drinking beautiful at this mature stage, with all the pieces in place. The intoxicating aromas of black cherry, cassis, smoke, cured meat, leather, cigar box, tomato, truffles and wet stones are almost impossible to stop taking in. Once this hits the palate you begin to see why this is one of the finest wines ever made from this Château. It is impeccably balanced and the tannins are soft, silky and perfectly integrated as they allow the wine to glide effortlessly into the soft, velvety finish. This is a truly magnificent wine, composed of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Franc Cabernet and 7% Merlot, which still has life ahead. January, 2014 (JD)
