The 2020 'Birba' from La Gerla is made from 100% Sangiovese Grosso from 25-Year-Old vines. It delivers wonderful aromatics of ripe dark cherries, blackberries and vanilla with secondary characteristics of spices, licorice and sweet toasty nuances all taking shape. On the palate this is medium-bodied and velvety, with soft tannins. There is characteristics of ripe dark berries, spices and toasted flavors that expand across the palate and linger on the finish. This spent 10 months in French Allier-Vosge oak medium-toasted barriques, a third of which are new.
