The 2014 Gabaxo Rioja is a gorgeous wine from Olivier Rivière. A blend of Garnacha, Tempranillo, soured from 20–65 year old vines, from Clay limestone, red clay, sand soils at an elevation of 500-650 meters and aged 12 months in foudre and 500L French oak demi-muids. The wine itself begins with inviting aromas of cherries, wild berries, plums, black tea, smoke and leather all taking shape. On the palate this is medium-bodied with an ultra-silky texture and incredible finesse through the pretty, sleek finish. This is drinking beautifully today, however it should also hold up nicely in the cellar over the next few years.
