Spotlighting a light to medium-lemon color with specks of green, the 2018 Olivet Lane Chardonnay from Gary Farrell is a sublime wine that can compete with the best of the best from the Russian River Valley. Resting for 9 months in 35% new French oak, the nose is a touch reductive, which I love, and gives aromas of volcanic ash, toasted hazelnut, yellow apple, lemon zest and a lovely butterscotch note. The palate is leaner than the nose, but just as delicious. It finishes a touch savory with a lemon-lime and toasted herb finish. Only 404 cases produced.
