BUTY Red Wine, Columbia Valley, Conner Lee Vineyard 2017

What a fun, complex wine from Buty in Washington state. This right-bank Bordeaux style blend of 74% Merlot and 26% Cabernet Franc exposes aromas of cranberries and black raspberries as the prominent fruit, followed by a woodsy, blue spruce characteristic. The complex nose ends with a hint of black licorice and cigar box. The palate is just as interesting with flavors of black raspberries, black currants, red plums, tobacco leaf and a pinch of toasted brioche. A very interesting wine that is low in alcohol, super complex and evolves over time into several layers of complexity. It’s so different - in a very good way.
