This 100% Malbec from Walla Walla Vintners is one of the best wines of this varietal to come out of Washington this vintage. Deep purple in color after having spent 18 months in 55% new French oak, it hits the palate with a bold mouthfeel. With fine but powerful tannins, it shows blueberry, espresso, Asian spice, and mild tobacco on entry. Shifting gears mid-palate, you get thrown back in your seat with bittersweet cocoa, milk chocolate, and anisette-soaked blackberry. The finish lasts almost a minute. This wine never budges an inch in its masculine style from start to finish. This powerful effort needs a few years of cellaring and then should sail for 15 more years.
