The 2020 Right Bank from Valo combines 50% Merlot and 50% Cabernet Franc, aged in big format barrels with very little new oak. Lots of tension from start to finish, it sports a shimmering dark purple core with a neon red rim. Perfected notes of blackberry pie, lemony herbs, dusty earth, toasted anise, crushed rock, green peppercorn, and freshly laid tar hit the nose and the palate. Despite the earthiness, it’s a fresh but rich wine with a full-bodied mouthfeel and crunchy tannins. Better 2025.
