PAUL LATO Pinot Noir, Santa Lucia Highlands ‘Lancelot’ 2019

Paul Lato wines continue to impress me beyond belief. In fact, I’ve never had an average wine from their winery and this Pinot Noir from the Pisoni Vineyard is no exception. With an average vine age of 38 years, this wine is aged for 17 months in 57% new French oak. Out of the gate, the wine opens with aromas of macerated wild strawberry, huckleberry compote, wild sagebrush, and just a hint of tangerine zest. The acidity is high and the tannins are silky and smooth. At the back of the palate you feel some serious minerality and depth from the perfectly balanced structure. Enjoy this wine now with a heavy decant or enjoy over the next 15 years or more. Only fourteen barrels produced. Highly recommended.
