The 2020 Matinee is a GSM blend (35% Syrah, 60% Grenache, and 5% Mourvedre) from Paul Lato that is stunning to look at in the glass - think notes of deep fluorescent purple with a bright neon pink rim. Aged for 19 months in 10% new French oak barrels, it starts off with phenomenal aromas of earth and grilled meat and then evolves to flavors of black cherry, crushed boysenberry, ground pink peppercorn, and sweet spice. Impeccably balanced, it’s spicy, earthy, and has the perfect amount of fruit to make it dance on the finish. Highly recommended and editor’s choice. Just five barrels produced.
