Always one of my favorite wines from Paul Lato, the 2021 East of Eden Chardonnay is an elegant yet powerful effort that deserves a spot in everyone’s cellar. With a bit more power and punch than previous vintages, it displays a medium golden apple color in the glass with a silvery rim. A lovely exhibition of caramelized yellow peach, toasted hazelnuts, yellow wildflowers, honey-coated pears, and cedary herbs is a treat on the nose. You literally can’t put this down, and it took me over 10 minutes of enjoying the nose even to try a sip. The impeccable balance of acidity, structure, weight, and tension showcases what Chardonnay can do with one of the best winemakers in the world. Enjoy this now or over the next decade. In fact, buy a case and enjoy one bottle each year for the next 12 years. Highly recommended and Editor’s Choice.
