DEVISON Cabernet Sauvignon, Walla Walla Valley ‘Block 28’ 2021

Displaying a neon dark purple core with a light purple rim, the 2021 Block 28 Cabernet Sauvignon is a masterclass in winemaking from Vintner Pete Devison. Mostly Cabernet with just a touch of Malbec and Petit Verdot, it’s aged for 20 months in 50% new French oak barrels. Scintillating aromas of boysenberry, blue plums, dusty country road, forest herbs, dried lilacs, sweet nutmeg, powdered chocolate, green peppercorn, and dried thyme. Alcohol is at 15%, but it doesn’t show itself and is perfectly balanced with the full-bodied mouthfeel, racy acidity, and crunchy tannins. It glides over the tongue and delivers a finish that doesn’t let go. This one needs time to come together and should drink well over the next two decades. Just a small production of 60 cases was produced. Highly recommended and editor’s choice.
