DEVISON Red Wine, Yakima Valley ‘Above the Flood’ 2021

The Above the Flood is a mélange of 65% Grenache, 32% Syrah, and 3% Mourvèdre. Gifting a neon ruby core with a bluish rim in the glass, in a blind, I would call this an old-world Gigondas. Lovely aromas of baked red plum, dusty huckleberries, white tobacco leaf, toasted anise seed, and cedary herbs. It displays incredible tension and opulence on the palate, with grippy tannins, perfect acidity, crushed green peppercorn, and hints of bay leaf. It finishes with a lovely stoney minerality note on the back palate. Just 140 cases made. Highly recommended and editor’s choice.
