The 2018 Counterpart is a single-vineyard blend of 65% Merlot and 35% Cabernet Sauvignon that is aged in 100% new French oak barrels. Chris Upchurch is crafting luxurious and downright delicious wines from Red Mountain and this Cabernet Sauvignon shows what can be done with perfect fruit and a master winemaker. The nose is incredibly expressive and complex and changed over time, revealing elements of black cherry, ripe strawberry, dark chocolate, leather and cedar. The palate is much the same with secondary characteristics of toasted ground black pepper spice and a crushed slate minerality on the finish. It is a beautifully structured and expertly crafted bottle of wine. Highly recommended. 350 cases made
