Incorporating 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2019 Kiona Malbec Estate is an elegant wine and a great expression of Malbec from Washington. Deep purple in color and showing blackcurrants on the nose, its entry is impressive. Showing fine and silky tannins with just the right backbone, blackberry, black raspberry, anise and raw blueberry pipe tobacco all emerge in a wonderfully textured way. It continues to get better with time in the glass and shows off some ripe plum and fig paste late in the game. A 45 second finish completes this wonderful journey. This is a well-constructed wine that is approachable now and should sail gracefully for another 10 to 15 years.
