Aged for 21 months in 21% new French oak barrels, the 2020 Diplomat is a mélange of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Syrah, and 14% Malbec and gifts a brooding deep ruby core with a bluish rim. Very earthy to start - think notes of tilled earth, crushed pink peppercorn, mushroom, cedary herbs, and pencil shavings. After a few minutes, it evolves into flavors of blackberries, blue plum skin, and dried purple flowers. Full-bodied in structure, tannins are integrated, and lovely acidity carries the finish. Just 350 cases made.
