MOONBASE Mourvedre, Red Mountain ‘Ciel du Cheval’ 2021

The 2021 Mourvedre from Moonbase was aged in neutral French oak puncheons for 18 months. The nose reminds of cooking with my grandma in her kitchen with notes of dusty flower petals, toasted black peppercorn, stewed beef, and green olive brine. It has a floral aspect to the palate that is pronounced alongside shades of blue fruit, black currant, and hints of sweet spice. It finishes long and smooth - a wonderful wine that should age for another 8-10 years. Approximately 70 cases were made.
