The Kiona Vineyards Red Blend Fortuna III Estate is a flat-out fantastic wine. The 34% Cabernet Sauvignon is from the 2019 vintage, as is the 29% Malbec. The 37% Carmenere spans four vintages, starting in 2019 and ending in 2022. With an inky color and giving off aromas of oak and black fruit, this wine hits the ground running and doesn’t look back. The mouthfeel is wonderful, showcasing settled, mouthcoating and velvety tannins. The fruit component explodes on the palate, giving up plush blueberry, blackberry, prune, and fig. As it shifts to second gear, concentrated licorice, black cherry pipe tobacco and milk chocolate joins the dance, never stepping on any toes as it waltzes along. It continues its sway through a 45 second finish, never giving up an inch or taking a break along the way. This is a must taste wine that is approachable now and should have 15 years of great drinking ahead of it.
