Blended with 5% each of Carmenere and Petite Sirah, along with 2% Merlot, the 2019 Kiona Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Heart of the Hill is a wonderful wine. Raised in 55% new French oak and 9% new American oak, it showed an inky purple hue. With slight oak and blackberry on the nose, it showed fine, bold, and present tannins. The entry showcased blackberry, huckleberry, blackberry pipe tobacco, and hints of bittersweet chocolate covered cherries. This wine exhibited a distinct second gear after time in the glass and had a finish that lasted more than one minute. This wine exudes class and power. It needs 3-4 years of cellaring and then should provide quite a treat for an additional 15 years.
