Chardonnay coming from the Sierra Madre Vineyard that is aged for 16 months in 45% new French oak barrels that features a medium-gold lemon color in the glass with a light silvery rim. The 2019 Le Sourvenir was my favorite Chardonnay from Paul Lato the last vintage and the 2020 is just as spectacular. Boasting Bartlet pear, Linden tree, toasted hazelnuts, Meyer lemon, and a hint of cedary thyme notes on the nose and on the palate, in a blind, I would call it Burgundy coming from a Premier or Grand Cru vineyard. Medium to full-bodied, perfectly structured with mouthwatering acidity, stony minerality, and a round and balanced mouthfeel form the palate along with flavors of white peach and fresh citrus. Be prepared for a finish that won’t disappear for minutes on end. This is a serious wine for $80 that will age for 10-15 years. I cannot wait to see how this wine evolves over time. Highly recommended.
