Deep purple-garnet core with a neon purple rim, the 2020 Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard Cabernet by Paul Hobbs has really come together nicely despite a difficult vintage. It was aged in 84% new French oak barrels for 20 months and is deeply colored and inky in the glass and lush on the palate. Rich blackberry, baked blue plum, dark chocolate powder, cedary herbs, wet earth, toasted anise, and tobacco leaf flavors and aromas are all present. Tannins are still crunchy with perfect levels of acidity and a dusty black-fruit driven finish. Only 838 cases were made. Better in 2025. Highly recommended.
