The 2016 Machete is a fascinating wine from Orin Swift, which immediately draws you in through its highly compelling aromatics of sweet pipe tobacco, dark chocolate cake and blueberry compote. Despite its high percentage of alcohol, this is highly poised with notable tension. Deep, layered flavors of mocha, anise, creme de cassis and blueberry pie continue to impress on the palate. Seductive and intense, give this beauty at least some time to unwind if enjoying in its youth. Delicious now, however this wine should continue to cellar well over the course of the next decade.
