DAY WINES Syrah, Applegate Valley ‘Hock and Deuce’ 2019

Ok, I admit it, I’m turning into a bit of a fanboy for Brianne Day’s wines. They are so interesting and unique from everything else going on in Willamette Valley that I find myself spending way too much time thinking about each of her wines that I’ve been reviewing. This spectacular Syrah is co-fermented with about 8% Viognier and boasts notes of freshly ground pepper, a bouquet of white wildflower, crushed black olive, and gobs of blueberry and blackberry fruit. The palate is leaner than the nose, bringing ample acidity, a structured and chalky tannin, and a medium to full-bodied finish that is spicy and herbaceous. Better in 2023. \
