Spending 14 months in 25% new French oak barrels, fermentation took place with 50% whole cluster to give it some added structure and tannins. Light to medium ruby-raspberry core with a brick and blue rim in the glass, the 2021 Nuthouse Pinot Noir drops wonderful notes of blueberry compote, red plums, milk chocolate, potpourri, crushed dried herbs, and grilled lemons on the nose and on the palate. An interesting caramel note on the back palate starts to develop on day 2 of opening the wine. Tannins are crunchy, acidity is elevated, and it finishes with a lovely bitter herb note on the back palate. Just 400 cases were made. Editor’s choice.
