With fruit coming from The Rocks District, the 2020 Wonderful Nightmare Tempranillo sees 40% whole cluster during native yeast fermentation and about 10% new French oak. The sense of place shines through with funky The Rocks aromas and flavors spilling from the glass. Mountain blueberry, boysenberry, dried herbs, dark chocolate, fresh tar, smoked game, and new leather are all present. A touch lighter and more nimble on its feet than the Syrah siblings, it’s leaner on the finish but incredibly focused. The chalky tannins need some time to settle down, so it will be better from 2024 onwards.
